HOW TO CHOOSE A SCALE

Scale for laboratory, industrial, food or school

MANY MODELS, ONE CERTAIN: OHAUS

There are a large number of scales on the market for a large number of applications and situations. We have chosen to offer Ohaus balances, a brand known throughout the world for the weighing accuracy and the quality of the structure and electronics of its models.
In every professional field, we are looking for a reliable scale that lasts for years and years without loss of performance, comfortable and with low maintenance costs. Jointlab feels confident to offer you Ohaus laboratory, industrial or food scales; all that remains is to choose!

The Defender 6000 industrial scales or even for food use, with IP69K degree, ultra-washable:

Ranger industrial counting scales; robust, multi-function, with three displays and large worktop:

The Adventurer analytical balances, very high precision and complete with the most useful functions and comforts within the laboratory:

CHOOSE YOUR SCALE IN 6 STEPS

1. For which sector do you need it?

• Education (from elementary school to university classrooms): education scales
• Laboratory, pharmaceutical: analytical balances; technical scales; moisture analyzers
• Industrial, freight transport: industrial scales; counting scales; floor scales
• Off-site weighing: portable scales
• Food (processing, preparation, reception): Food scales
• Retail: portable scales

2. How much precision / capacity do you need?

The numerous models of the scales are due to the different possible ranges between accuracy and capacity. In general, the more the scale is able to read small values, the more the cost will go up, so think carefully about the measurement values you need. What will be the lightest and heaviest weight of your measurements?

Example: the NAVIGATOR NVT2200 can read at least 1 g, measure up to 2.2 kg and the cost is around 130 euros; the NAVIGATOR NV323, with the same functions and features, reads up to 0.001g and can measure up to 320g in weight, costing double the NAVIGATOR NVT2200.

3. Do you need special measurement functions?

Modern scales not only allow for basic weighing, but also other weighing options, to be used in various applications. It is therefore important to consider the functions of the scale and think about what types of weighing you will need.
For example, OHAUS cost-effective PR series can be used for Basic Weighing, Piece Counting and Percent Weighing ', while the sophisticated EXPLORER Series has a huge amount of applications: Weighing, Piece Counting, Percent Weighing, Check Weighing, Animal / Dynamic Weighing, Filling, Totalization / Statistics, Formulation, Differential Weighing, Density Determination, Peak Hold, Ingredient Costing, Pipette Adjustment, SQC, and Statistics.

4. What do you need to measure?

Another parameter that could be important, depending on the use, may be the size of the weighing pan. The bench scales for the laboratory can have a round or rectangular plate of medium sizes, while the industrial scales have a wider support surface, up to the load scales, floor, which square, can be up to 1,5 meter wide. So, what size will the samples you weigh be?

5. Do you work in particular environments?

In the industrial field, where you work with heavy and resistant tools, it will be advisable to equip yourself with a sturdy scale, with a metal structure and overload resistance, to avoid any damage to the scale. Examples are the portable scales / counting Ranger or the best-selling Defender, for larger items.
Or, if you work in humid environments, with very high standards of hygiene, you will need to equip yourself with scales with a high IP rating (read our post on food scales, to learn all about the IP rating of Ohaus scales). You will be able to equip yourself with a scale with the highest IP degree, IP69K, thanks to the Defender 6000 scale.
Also important, for some environments, is the protection from cutting tools, useful for those food sectors of portioning and preparation. In this case, the control panel is protected by an anti-cut membrane that will protect the display and buttons, ensuring safety and durability.

6. Other important functions

There are many particular functions to allow specific applications, below is an example list:
• Weighing from below: the scale is equipped with a hinge under the structure, where you can hang the object to be weighed
• Dynamic weighing: useful for example for veterinarians; even if the animal moves during the weighing, the balance will show an average value across all readings
• USB / RS-232 interfaces for data download and storage
• Blocking functionality; user password
• Plastic or metal structure
